Thesis title: Europe on the Caucasus, Caucasus in Europe: how Europeanisation changes local communities and how local communities change Europe

Funding: self finding with GA UK

Thematic research group: REGPOL

Begun: March 2021

Project:

The study attempts to establish the relationship between the actions of the European Union beyond its borders, the spread of specific values as the main core by which the EU is recognised, and their perception on the territory of regions adjacent to Europe, which may not become part of the Сommunity in the future, but which will guarantee security for the EU. On the other hand, the connection of Caucasian diasporas within the EU member states with their native territories on the North Caucasus (Dagestan/North Ossetia and Ingushetia) as a channel for spreading values in both directions will be studied. The North Caucasus has been chosen as such a region, as a territory that culturally, geographically and historically can be challenged as the natural geographical boundaries of Europe. The current study has never been covered in the Academia before. Therefore it will be an innovation for a key understanding of European foreign policy, as well as the perception of EU values beyond its borders.
