Thesis title: Teachers´ strategies of the map skills development in geography lessons
Details: Map skills and their development were neglected in the research in Czechia for many years. Currently, there are numerous research studies on this topic, however, these researches are focusing mainly on acquired or intended curriculum missing out the realized curriculum. There is an obvious deficiency in research focusing on the relation between student and teacher during map work, teacher’s influence on map skill development of students, as well as student’s perceptions of map skills importance for their lives.
Considering this, the aim of the proposed project is to gain insight into map work in geography lessons, and to identify teaching strategies leading to a complex map skill development of students at lower secondary level of education. The goal will be achieved using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods into the students´ level of map skills and teacher’s personal concepts of map skills development (projected into pedagogical strategies used). Specifically, an achievement test, a questionnaire, video study and interview.
