Research focus: Political geography, geopolitics, nationalism and ethnic studies, Russia and Eastern Europe
A note for prospective PhD students: Potential PhD candidates interested in research at the intersection of political geography, economic geography, human geography, sociology, politology, and international relations are welcome. Specifically, topics concerning Eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East would be appreciated.
PhD supervision:
- Ongoing PhD projects: Teaching political-geographical topics in Czechia and in selected countries (Josef Král); Changes in the post-soviet borderlands - geographical, geopolitical, economic and cultural processes (Alexandra Dresler), Development assistance as a soft power initiative: Case study Kosovo (Vít Volný), Non-state and quasi-state armed actors, their motivation, territorial differentiation and effect on the functioning of state institutions and armed conflicts (Filip Sommer).
